Background

Max Mauerman is a Staff Associate at Columbia University's International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI), as well as a PhD candidate at the University of Reading Department of Agriculture, Policy and Development. His roles at IRI include the development of decision support tools for climate risk management as well as research on economic decision-making under climate uncertainty. Prior to joining IRI, Max worked for Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), where he co-managed a large-scale evaluation of a rangeland conservation program in Namibia. He has also worked as a consultant for the World Food Programme and Tetra Tech on research topics related to climate resilience and conservation agriculture.

Research Interests

Economics of pastoralism and community conservation; participatory field research methods; the use of Bayesian methods in climate decision support; spatial econometrics and the use of remote sensing data in economic research.
