PARAGUAY CLIMATE

Paraguay has two distinct climate regions with very differennt rianfall regimes, the eastern part of the country, denominated El Chaco and the south eastern part.

Chaco

The Western part of  Country is a large plain denominated 'El Chaco'.
The rainfall regime in the region is Tropical summer rainfall regime, as in the eastern part of the Country . The Parana river divides the
drier west from the wetter eastern part o the country.
The Chaco is characterized by a semi permanent low-pressure system, with largest intensity in the summer. This low  brings

This region has very high  mean temperatures, with maximum reaching  during summer over 30C,. Minimum temperatures are found in
July. Only in July there is a small probability of reaching temperatures below zero. Spring temperatures are higher than autumn
temperatures. This is caused by the small amount of cloudiness in late winter and sting coinciding with the end of the dry season, so that
temperatures repond rapidly to the increasing intensity of solar radiation. This quick rise in temperatures is the reason for the early
formation of the low-pressure over El Chaco. The winds resulting from the low are northerly and bring with them moisture from the
Amazon.

Eastern Paraguay

The southeastern part of the country is defiend as the region east of the Paraguay river. The region lies in a transotional zone from
continental summer regimes to maritime winter rains. The results is rainfall all year long with maxima in spring and autumm and minima
in winter and secondary minima in summer. Mean temparaures  are lower than in the western part of the country, but still reach 30
degress in the summer.
