CHILE
The excessive rains in the central/central south part of the country
during this winter have provided enough water to almost of the dams so
that the defecient in water levels that most of them had have been recovered.
There is no treat to the electricity generation for the coming summer |
INTRODUCTION
Chile can be divided into four different climatic regions:
North, Central, South and Extreme south region (figure 1). In all
the regions except the desert North there are distinct wet and dry seasons.
In the central and south region of the country the wet winters and sunny
summers support the agriculture sector as well as dams for power generation,
which represent about 60% of the electric power generation in the country.
The relation of rainfall in Chile with ENSO events have long been established
and the potential for seasonal prediction has been investigated.
