Groundbreaking Climate Information In Ethiopia
The IRI and Ethiopia’s National Meteorological Agency have created an unprecedented 30-year time series of rainfall and temperature data that cover the entire country. This was possible thanks to innovative methods developed by IRI’s Tufa Dinku, which combine rain-gauge measurements and satellite estimates [background story and video]. The publishing of this publicly-available, comprehensive data set has significant implications for planning in health, agriculture, water and other sectors. It also provides a promising template for improving climate services throughout Africa. The work was made possible thanks to a grant from Google.org. We’ll be writing more about this soon!
