Strengthening U.S.-India Agricultural Research

Earlier this month, U.S. President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced a new era of collaboration on agricultural research in the face of climate change. In fact, efforts have been underway since 2009: the IRI has been working with India's Ministry of Agriculture and other institutions to improve forecasts of the Indian monsoon and to help farmers manage drought.

Walter Baethgen Honored in Uruguay
Dr. Baethgen, who oversees IRI's work in Latin America, received the Morosoli de Oro, one of the most prestigious awards that can be bestowed on an Uruguayan citizen. In receiving this honor, Baethgen now stands among eminent writers, poets, doctors and other luminaries recognized for their profound contributions to Uruguayan society. Past recipients include internationally acclaimed author, Eduardo Galeano. The acting President of Uruguay, Lucía Topolansky, is shown here presenting Baethgen with the award on November 27th.
