Graduate Research Fellow
Geoff’s research in the Sustainable Development Ph.D. program at Columbia is focused on the fields of climate risk & adaptation, natural resource management, agricultural and development economics, forecasting and applications of climate information. With the Financial Instruments Sector Team at IRI, Geoff is actively involved in several projects that design, develop, and evaluate weather index insurance for smallholder farmers in developing countries. These projects are focused primarily on the use of climate information for the alleviation of drought risk for farmers, and the corresponding use of index insurance to create economic opportunities for farmers to improve their overall livelihoods. Countries with projects where Geoff is actively engaged include Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Indonesia; with index insurance products that have been purchased by hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers.
